Here's the latest from Phil Emory, EFC's keeper of competitive results.  Some highlights from Phil's September report.

  • Overall, we continue to enjoy strong competitive success.  Check out the totals box at the lower right on the first page of Phil's report (the picture at the beginning of this post).  You'll notice a 55% win rate across league and tournament play, with a 50% win rate at regionals earlier this year.

  • Overall, the girls are doing slightly better than boys this month.

  • Both league and tournament results look consistent which means we're achieving our goal of "like competition."  Generally speaking, we’re entering our teams in the right tournaments at about the right level of competition and our teams are competing in the correct divisions.

  • A few more teams have started reporting scores to Phil.  Thank you for that, and for those teams who still are not reporting on a consistent basis, we encourage you to begin doing so.  Contact him at philemory@hotmail.com.

One of the reasons we're trying to do a better job of reporting scores across tournaments and league play is to improve our national rankings on sites like GotSoccer and gain access to more and better levels of competition in tournaments around the nation.  I asked Phil his thoughts on GotSoccer.com....

Got Soccer:  The existing PDL score reporting / posting system is cumbersome.  Perhaps the PDL should use it as their system for recording and posting scores. It would automatically capture team results for both league and tournament play and incorporate those results into GotSoccer's national ranking system.

No tournaments in Washington or Oregon are using GotSoccer for score recording/posting.  However, a significant number of California and East Coast tournaments do use it to accept, seed, and manage tournament play.

The lack of a state-wide ranking system is an impediment to accessing competitive tournaments out of state.  While GotSoccer isn't stellar as a software package, by far they’re the best out there.  The benefit of using it as a score reporting/posting platform would be consistent, comprehensive team ranking across all teams using it.  It would help promote Washington teams as they move outside the state.
